CREW ALERT — PREVIOUS SCHEDULES

Previous Schedules and
HALVE MAEN CREW ALERT

Year 2000 Schedule

April 14 to April 23
Join the crew for the spring "Student Cruise" up the river.  We will be departing from our Winter quarters in Verplanck, NY, heading downriver to do some serious sailing in the lower bay, then turn upriver and arrive in Albany for the holiday weekend that will begin a three week stay in Albany, near the site of the original Fort Orange.
April 24 to May 11
During the week, the ship will be available to host school and group tours by prearrangement in the Capital Region of New York State [ Call (914) 413-9924 for school and group tour information ].  On weekends, the ship will be available for tours by the general public.  Crew and Docents will be available to explain ship features, seafaring life in the 1600s, and facts about New Netherland.
May 12 to May 18
The Half Moon will make an ocean voyage, sailing from Albany, downriver to New York City, through the narrows under the Verranzano Bridge, and past Sandy Hook onto the Atlantic Ocean.  Our heading is south towards the mouth of the Delaware River.  We then sail upriver to our intermediate destination, New Castle, Delaware, where we will join and become part of a celebration in the port.
May 19 to May 22
The Half Moon celebrates its arrival with the citizens of Delaware in New Castle.   This location was the site of the original Fort Casimir and the town of New Amstel, which by the mid 1600s had hundreds of Dutch (and former Swedish) citizens living there.   It was renamed New Castle when the English first took control of the area in 1664.   The ship will be available for tours by the general public.  Crew and Docents will be available to explain ship features, seafaring life in the 1600s, and facts about New Netherland's Southern border, which is now the State of Delaware.
May 23 to May 25
The Half Moon takes leave of New Castle and heads south towards Lewes, Delaware.   Lewes was the first Dutch settlement in the Delaware River region and was originally called "Zwaanendael," or "Valley of the Swans."  Henry Hudson himself discovered, and laid claim to the Delaware River for the Dutch in 1609, even before he found the Hudson River further north.
May 26 to May 30
The Half Moon celebrates Memorial Day Weekend in the former "Zwaanendael," renamed Lewes by the English in 1681. The ship will be available for tours by the general public.  Crew and Docents will be available to explain ship features, seafaring life in the 1600s, and facts about New Netherland's southernmost town.  The Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes, modeled after the town hall of Hoorn, in The Netherlands, is also a good source of Delaware related historical facts.
May 31 to June 5
The Half Moon Sails from Lewes, Delaware, across the Delaware, to Cape May, New Jersey.   Some nearby ocean sailing trips will be taken during this period.  Evenings and during the weekend in Cape May, the Half Moon will be available for tours by the general public.  Crew and Docents will be available to explain ship features, seafaring life in the 1600s, and facts about New Netherland.
June 6 to June 11
The Half Moon again will make an ocean voyage, this time leaving Cape May and sailing North back to the Hudson River.  At this time our destination is Verplanck, NY, but this may change, so watch this page for further updates.
Dates around the Fourth of July
The Half Moon is planning to participate in OP-Sail 2000, the first Tall Ships parade of the New Millennium in New York Harbor over the Fourth of July Weekend.  We will watch this page for further updates, as they become known.
Summer and Fall, 2000
